Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced today that it will temporarily close Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for visitors. In a press release UWA says that in line with its mandate of protecting wildlife resources in Uganda as per the Wildlife Act from 2019, it has taken over full charge of security of the rhinos at Ziwa Sanctuary in Nagasongola district. For this to be effectively done, the sanctuary was closed for the public with immediate effect and no tourism activities will be taken until further notice.

A suspected poacher was trampled to death by elephants while fleeing from wildlife rangers. The badly injured body of a man was found in the southern portion of Kruger National Park in South Africa on Saturday. He is thought to have been hunting rhinos along with two other men, before rangers discovered their tracks and chased them.
